A NEST FOR THE NEWLYWED

A new home signifies a new beginning and a place for new memories to be made. For this newly wed, this 3-bedroom condo is the start of their journey as a couple. They wanted a home that is both bright and cosy, but it also needed to be functional to suit their lifestyle needs.

Walking in, you are immediately greeted by a beautifully crafted natural Volakas marble dining table, lit by two iconic pendant lighting pieces from Louis Poulsen. This statement dining piece is unique on its own as no two slabs of marble will look the same. To open up more room for the dining area, we extended the space by downsizing the open balcony, allowing this young couple to host guests more comfortably. We also made full use of the recess wall by designing a countertop and wall shelves, complete with wood-grain laminate design fluted panels from Chroma. The customised lightings on these shelves are carefully designed to highlight the couple’s collection of Singapore Airlines batik stewardess figurines.

In the living room, the feature wall lined with fluted panels is designed to keep all unsightly wirings away, giving it a sleek and flushed look. The intentional asymmetrical design of the living space also offers a harmonious yet uniformed look, creating a cosy spot for the young couple to unwind. To complement this cushy space, we also recommended a designer SPIN wooden ceiling fan, installed right in the middle of the room.

Our couple also has a keen eye for details and quality furnishings. They wanted elements of the home that are wholly theirs. That is why we designed customised door handles for their ceiling to floor built-in wardrobe and cabinets. In the master bedroom, the couple’s bed sits under a large concave panel with natural veneer finish. This unique design is further enhanced with a warm lighting strip at the bottom, giving it a nice night light glow. The cushioned headboard is also custom fitted to have electrical sockets built in for ease of use. And as the saying goes, a happy wife leads to a happy life, am I right? So what better way then to fashion a dressing table, complete with custom-sized storage cabinets made for all her needs!

The last bit of this contemporary home that we want to feature is the minimalist design of the master bathroom. Instead of a typical under sink cabinet with doors, we designed a drawer system for this couple. The functionality of pull-out drawers allow them to store and retrieve items easily. To provide them with even more storage space, a half-length mirror above the sink is designed to have additional space for toiletries, keeping the entire bathroom space clean and polished. More often or not, it’s the little details that make up the character of a home. Choosing quality furnishings and thinking through on how to utilise limited spaces is key to creating a charming yet functional home.
